Helmut Mattheis It is with great sadness the family of Helmut Mattheis announces his passing at his home in Calgary on October 19, 2009 at 80 years of age. Helmut was born in Velbert Germany on July 6, 1929. During his childhood Helmut enjoyed many acitivities including track, handball and soccer. After the war Helmut immigrated to Saskatchewan in 1952 and lived in Goodsoil for a short time with his sister Erna until moving to Saskatoon. There he met his wife Anna in the Bessborough Park and they were married in 1953. Helmut was one of the founding members of the German Concordia Club and was also an active member of the German Hunter's Club where he made many lifelong friends. For many years Helmut was a draftsman designing houses throughout Saskatoon and then Chilliwack for a short time. He was very proud of his career and helped many people realize their dreams of owning a custom designed home. Since his retirement Helmut and Anna lived in Anglemont, B.C. where he enjoyed creating and maintaining his garden. One of Helmut's favorite hobbies was designing and making knives which he shared with his family. He had a lifelong love of classical music in which he had participated in many choirs as a member and soloist. Helmut is survived by his wife, Anna; his children, Ingrid (Richard), Rita (Dave), Reinhold (Sherri), and Herb (Shannon); his grandchildren, Micheal, Rob, Leah, Lyndon, Brendan, Patrick, and Jaclyn; and his great grandchildren, Morgan, Emma and Aiden.
