Doola Singh SEKHON

SEKHON Doola Singh December 5, 1911 - October 17, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doola Singh Sekhon, 97, peacefully at his home with family at his side, on October 17, 2009. He was born December 5, 1911, in the village of Chamba, district Amritsar, India. He moved to Singapore at an early age and resided there until 1974, at which time he came to Vancouver to be with his sons and daughters. To this day, he still maintained the family home in Singapore. Father was a successful self-made businessman in numerous business ventures. More importantly, he was a pioneer and leader in the Singapore Sikh community. He helped many Sikh immigrants settle and thrive in Singapore, and with his friends, spearheaded the building of various Gurdawaras. His legacy of humility and helping others will forever continue. The greatest joys he had were spending time with his children and grandchildren and travelling around the world visiting friends and family. His wonderful smile would light up a room and he loved to share laughs with everyone he met. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends and will continue to be an inspiration to his family. Predeceased by Balwant, he is survived by his wife, Delip, 5 sons, 4 daughters, 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Services will be held at Riverside Funeral Home on Saturday, October 24 at 2:00 pm. Following services Bhog will be at the Akali Singh Sikh temple.
