Marion BOTHAM

DUNN Marion (Botham) 1919 - 2009 On October 17, 2009, just a few days short of her ninetieth birthday, the angels came for Marion Dunn. Marion was born in North Vancouver on October 30, 1919 to Harry and Henrietta Botham, the eldest of three. She lived her young life in North Van and graduated from North Van High in 1936 at age sixteen. After matriculation she worked for the American Can Company during the war, and for Letson and Burpee until 1948, as a secretary. Some time in 1940 Marion met Bill Dunn of Vancouver, an engineering student, and in 1945 they married. They built their home in Kerrisdale over the next five years and then began their family. After Denise, Lorna and Barbara finished elementary school, Marion returned to work, this time in the Vancouver School Board system. She became a school secretary for Waverley Elementary and later Osler Elementary and even after many years of retirement would regularly be greeted on the street by former students, parents and teachers. Marion and Bill sold the Kerrisdale home in 2004 and moved, with their little white dog Timber, to Hampton Place at UBC. After Bill died in 2004, Marion stayed on and she and Timber were familiar and welcoming presences in the halls and garden of St. James Place. Marion was a bright but gentle light in the lives of everyone who knew her -- husband Bill, daughters Denise, Lorna and Barbara, grandchildren Kiera and Chloe Hill, step grandchildren Jason and Cristin McMullen, sons-in-law Shane McMullen, Frank Cox and Dave Hill, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to list. We have all lost someone so special. A celebration of Marion's life will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Road on Monday, November 2nd between 2:00 and 5:00 pm.
