Marco GANDOSSI

GANDOSSI Marco 1924 - 2009 Marco passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, October 18, 2009. He was predeceased by his wife Sheila in 1985, who also suffered a prolonged illness with cancer. Marco is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 23 years, and by their extended family - Bruce Gandossi (Rosie Watson), David Gandossi (Judy), Susan Windrum (Jim), Nancy Yorke (Gary), Cameron McGill (Gloria), Barbara King (Brian) and Richard McGill, and by numerous grand and great-grandchildren to whom he was, and will always be, a cherished "Papa". He was predeceased by his youngest brother Bruno, and is survived by his younger brother Guido, and by his brothers' families in Vancouver and Alberta. Marco was born in Shanghai, China on October 15, 1924, and was raised with his brothers in Yokohama, Japan before he traveled at the age of ten to Canada, to attend Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island. He became a Chartered Accountant, and retired after a lifetime career with Woodward's Stores Ltd. as Chief Financial Officer and a Senior Vice President. He leaves a legacy of philanthropic work, including many years as Chairman of the P.A. Woodward's Foundation. Marco was a fine athlete who played rugby at an elite level in his youth, and he had a love of tennis, squash and golf. He had a big smile and an even bigger heart, and he lived a full life of family, friends, career and sports. We will all miss him so much. There will be a memorial gathering for friends and family on Saturday, November 7th at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club - 1630 West 15th Ave from 2 to 5 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, the family requests that donations be made in Marco's memory to the Prostate Centre at VGH, c/o VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, 855 West 12th Ave. Vancouver, BC V5Z 1M9.
