John PATTERSON

PATTERSON, John (Jack) Jack Patterson passed away peacefully in Victoria BC at Douglas Care Community on Wednesday October 7th, 2009, in the company of family. Jack was born in Winnipeg on June 13th, 1917, and grew up there, graduating in 1935 from St. John's Technical School. In 1938, his family moved to Vancouver, and Jack worked for Kelly Douglas & Co. He joined the Canadian Army in September 1942, serving in England and Holland until March 1946, and obtained the rank of Sergeant. Jack owned and operated a general store in Mill Bay between 1949 and 1960, and then ran the Mill Stream restaurant from 1960 to 1967. Jack later moved from Mill Bay to Victoria, where he lived on Colquitz Avenue and cared for his elderly mother. In 1993, he joined the community at Ophir Place on Church Avenue. Throughout his life, Jack was an active participant in sports, enjoying soccer in his younger years, and later, activities such as fishing, tennis, and walking. Jack was liked by all those whose lives he touched and he will be dearly missed by his family. Jack is survived by his sister Pat Miller, his brother-in-law Hugh Miller, nieces Bonnie Hallett and Magee Miller, and great niece Alison MacRae-Miller.
