Kazimierz FORYSINSKI

FORYSINSKI, Kazimierz (Kay) September 8, 1925 - October 20, 2009 On October 20, 2009 Kay Forysinski passed away at the age of 84 years. Kazik will be greatly missed by his son, Marek of Los Angeles, California, and all of his family in Poland and Germany, as well as lots of dear friends. Kay will be remembered as a kind, gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. Kazimierz was long known in Edmonton as a superlative goldsmith and watchmaker. He worked for a number of years for Hudson's Bay Company in their watch repair department before opening his own watch repair business in Boardwalk where he continued until retiring. But he is best known for the Papal cross he designed and made for Pope John II visit to Edmonton in 1984. The cross was presented to the Pontiff at the time by the local Polish community, and when the Pope died in 2004, Kazimierz gave the replica to the Papal Museum in Krakow, Poland. He spent much of the war in Italy in the Polish tank brigade tied to the British Army. After the war, he went back to England and after demobilization, he went back to watch making. He spent a few years in Bermuda and in 1965, he made Canada his home. A Memorial Service will be held at Our Lady Queen of Poland Roman Catholic Parish (9906 - 83 Avenue, Edmonton) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009.
