Dorothy Frances AULT

Dorothy Ralph, 79 Dorothy Ralph, 79, of Oxford Acres, died of cancer in Brockville on September 16, after a brief illness. She was born Dorothy Frances Ault in Shanly on April 28, 1925. Her parents were Joseph Ault and the former Hazel Billings. She grew up in Iroquois and Shanly, attending public school in the latter and going to Spencerville for high school. She moved to Brockville after high school and worked as a nanny. She also worked at Phillips Cables and Orient Hosiery as an assembly worker. After her first marriage, to Allan Covill, she did secretarial work in her husband's business, Covill Auto Wreckers, on County Road 26. After his death in February 1991, she sold the business in 1993. She married Ernest Ralph in October 1993. She enjoyed travelling to their winter home in Florida, playing cards and travelling with friends. She belonged to the Brockville Senior Citizens Club 85. Her main interests were her home and family, and it was always her pleasure to prepare her family's favourite dishes. She was predeceased by her second husband in July 2002, but she is survived by four daughters, Betty Downing and husband David of Maitland and Linda Kirkby and husband Ted, Alynn Page and husband Ron and Denise Daubney and husband Gary, all of Brockville, as well as seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Ethel Osatchuk and husband Tony of Mississauga, and Luella Lester and husband Frank and Gloria Orr and husband George, all of Brockville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived as well by her stepchildren, Allen Ralph and wife Sharon of London, Ont., Doug Ralph and wife Diane and Burton Ralph and wife Lynn, all of Brockville, Donna Shay and husband Gerry of Cornwall and Lois Knowles of Ottawa, as well as eight step-grandchildren. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by a daughter Sandra in February 1961, sister Beatrice Latimer and granddaughter Marla Kirkby. Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, on September 17. The funeral was held September 18 at Highway Pentecostal Church, with her son-in-law Pastor David Downing of Highway Pentecostal officiating and Pastor Phil Philips of Maynard United Pentecostal Church assisting. Burial followed at Maynard Cemetery. The active pallbearers were grandsons Scott Downing, Ben Lyons and Edward Kirkby, stepson Burton Ralph, and her granddaughters' husbands Dennis Bernier and Dennis Crowder. Honorary pallbearers were Bonnie Place, Darrell Coville, Gary Daubney and Peter Abbott. Memorial donations were directed to the Canadian Cancer Society.
