Dorothy Ethel BLACK

Dorothy Tuttle, 91 Dorothy Ethel Tuttle, 91, died October 4 at her Brockville home, where she lived with her daughter, after an 18-month illness with cancer. She was born July 29, 1913 in Williamsburg Township to Thomas Black and the former Dora Brown. On November 17, 1933, she married Maurice Hilliard Tuttle in Chesterville. They farmed in the area until 1954, when they moved their family to Brockville. Mrs. Tuttle worked as a server at Scott's Restaurant and later worked in the kitchen at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. After retiring, she babysat in her home for many years. Finally, she had a most memorable employment as a nanny for Clinton and Judith Culic until ill health forced her to stop working. For many years, she and her friends gathered weekly for a night of euchre, which she loved to play. She also bowled on a five-pin league at the local bowling alley until it was torn down. She was an avid bingo player. Mrs. Tuttle is survived by six daughters and two sons: Charles Tuttle and wife Louise of Barrie, Margaret Gallinger and friend Garry Spence of Athens, Betty Gaudin of Brockville, Janet Bellemore of Maitland, Shirley Gardiner of Kitley-Elizabethtown Township, Ron Tuttle and friend Josie Close of Lyn, Audrey Sutherland of Brockville and Helen Greene and husband Al of Brockville. Also surviving are 35 grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren, a sister Edith Whittaker of Iroquois and several nieces/nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Grace Tuttle; two sons, Donald and Reginald Tuttle; and six brothers, Tom, Charlie, Bill, Grant, Stanley, Murray and her twin sister Grace Dora Black. The Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, made funeral arrangements and a memorial service was held October 7 in the chapel at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Maitland, with Rev. Geri Johnston officiating. Cremation and burial followed. Memorial donations were directed to the Hospice of Providence Palliative Care or the Canadian Cancer Society.
