Stanley CHORLEY

CHORLEY , Stanley October 30, 1925 - October 16, 2009 Stanley Chorley, 83, will be dearly missed by his daughter Penny Chorley (Shayne), son Peter Chorley (Jody) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and daughter Pamela del Campo Hartman (Pete), grandchildren Wanda, Erica, Amanda, Vince, Nicholas, Adam, Alex and great-grandchildren Jacob, Jaeden, Megan, Marissa and Madelyn. At fourteen Stan moved from his birthplace of Exeter, England to Southampton, England and worked as a tea boy for the fitters of the Howard Hughes Co. Just before turning eighteen, he started with the Royal Air Force as a Spitfire fitter. In 1945 he was posted to Yatesbury, England. At a dance he met Betty, a teletype operator with the Women's Auxiliary Air Force. They married on April 19, 1947. After enduring postwar shortages, and in search of a new life together, in 1952 Stan and Betty immigrated to Canada and started their family. He worked for Ontario Hydro for thirty-two years, and in 1983 having earned their retirement, they enjoyed a wonderful "snowbird" life for fifteen years to Mesa, Arizona. Upon their return to Calgary, Stan continued his leisure activities - woodworking, golfing, reading the daily newspaper, watching war movies and listening to music. He will be lovingly remembered for his wit and dry sense of humour. The family would like to thank Unit 94 at Rockyview Hospital, where he was treated with the best medical care, concern and compassion. A private family Funeral was held on Wednesday, October 21 at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens, where Stan rejoined the love of his life, his wife, Betty. May they both rest in peace, together forever.
