Olive HICKS

Olive Easter, 92 Olive Easter, 92, longtime community volunteer, died December 14 at Sherwood Park Manor. Born on July 5, 1912 in Montreal, she was the daughter of Lorne Garfield Hicks and the former Selena Waddell. In 1923 she moved to Brockville, where her father came to work at Phillips Cables. She married Arthur Easter on September 28, 1934 in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and lived for a short time in Prescott. When Mr. Easter went overseas during the Second World War, she returned to Brockville, where she remained. She was mainly a homemaker, but had worked for the Whyte (meat) Packing Company in her younger years. Mrs. Easter was a longtime community volunteer, at the Brockville General Hospital during and after the war, at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital over 16 years in the occupational therapy department, and at Trinity Anglican Church, where she assisted at special events over the years. She was a member of Trinity Church and enjoyed all types of crafts, especially knitting and embroidery work, cooking and cake decorating, seasonal decorating and miniatures. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1996, but is survived by her daughter Carol Fingas and husband Wayne of New Dublin and by her son Barry Easter and wife Donella of Prince George, B.C. She is also survived by grandchildren Catherine and Sara Easter, both of Brockville. She was predeceased by sisters Violet Backhurst and Gwendolyn Elliott and by two brothers in infancy. Friends called at the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, Brockville, where on December 18 the funeral was held, with Rev. Doug Burns, former rector at Trinity Church, officiating. Burial followed at Oakland Cemetery. Memorial donations were directed to Sherwood Park Manor and other charities.
