Howard Laidler Howard Laurie Laidler, 72, died at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital on November 28 after a two-year illness with lung cancer. Mr. Laidler, a retired high-wire lineman foreman, was a resident of Brockville for the previous 10 months. He was born on May 8, 1932 in Mississauga, Ont., where he was raised by his father Adam (his mother's name is unknown). Mr. Laidler, who retired eight years ago, was involved with organizations such as the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Alcoholics Anonymous. His hobbies included gardening, travelling, cooking, dog walking, house repairs and swimming. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Mr. Laidler was married to and is survived by the former Joyce McNabb, whom he married May 29, 1993 in White Rock, B.C. He is also survived by sons Dwight of RR 1, Brockville, Steve of Whistler, B.C., and Craig of Coquitlam, B.C.; daughters Darlene of Vancouver and Sharon Cavanagh of Perth, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother Walter of White Rock, B.C., and sister Pat Smith of Mississauga, as well as cousins in Ottawa and British Columbia. Mr. Laidler was predeceased by his parents and by his sister Helen, who lived in Mississauga. Barclay Funeral Home, Brockville, took care of funeral arrangements. The funeral was held at Wall Street United Church on December 2, with Rev. Dr. Alan Bennett officiating. Cremation followed and burial will be in Whistler, B.C.
