SHINKARUK, Victoria The passing of Victoria Shinkaruk occurred on October 2, 2009. She was very brave during her illness. Vicki was predeceased by her parents Fred and Mary Shinkaruk, one sister Anne, three brothers-in-law and her long time companion and soul mate Ross Dawn. Surviving are four sisters, Theresa Mateychuk, Sandy Lamontagne, Helen (Mike) Stefaniuk, Olga (Ed) Markowsky and one brother Orest. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Vicki was born and raised in Saskatchewan, but lived all of her adult life in Edmonton. Vicki worked in the restaurant industry. She enjoyed meeting and chatting with the patrons which included Wayne Gretsky, so she became a big Oiler fan. As a teen Vicki played the guitar and the violin and later she would purchase an organ and learned to play it as well. After retirement she took up painting, did volunteer work for the Y.W.C.A and kept playing the organ. Vicki was a loyal and caring person, she was fun to be with and as honest as the day is long. We will miss her. May God bless and keep her. A special thanks to Edna and Harry for their kindness and generosity. Thanks to niece Sherry for all her help and a big thank you to all the staff of the Edmonton General Unit 9Y for taking such good care of our sister. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
