MITCHELL Nora (nee McBride) Our wonderful mother Nora, loving wife of Alexander Reid Mitchell (1909 - 1970), passed away peacefully on October 29. Nora was born on August 9, 1917 in Toronto and moved at the age of five to Vancouver where she grew up with her four brothers in Kerrisdale. Nora attended Maple Grove, Point Grey and was in the first graduating class of York House School. Her indomitable Irish spirit carried her through her life from marriage to Alex, the Scot from Lossiemouth, to raising her four children, enjoying her grandchildren and establishing a wide circle of good friends. Traveling, golf, bridge, Woodward's, West Vancouver, Hawaii and Beach Grove serve as great memories. Nora will be missed for her grace and style, her spunk, the love she showed to others, her sense of humour, her positive outlook, her chocolate chip cookies and grilled cheese sandwiches. Nora was a longtime member of Shaughnessy Golf Club. Nora was predeceased by her mother and father, Tom and Mary, her twin sister Olive and her brothers Ted, Ron and Bun. Her life is celebrated by her four children: Barbara (Al) Vitols; Kyle (Mary) Mitchell; Keith (Mary Jane) Mitchell and Nora (John David) Newlands. She is survived by her grandchildren Reid (Eileen), Alex, Ashley and Daniel Mitchell, Lisa Vitols and Shannon (Mike) Harrison, Malia, Alexander and Elisa MItchell and Lindsay (Ali), Alastair, and Kelly Forbes and great-grandchildren Emily, Chloe and Jack Harrison of Vancouver, John, Douglas and Molly Mitchell of Toronto and Cameron Dibadj of New York. Nora is also survived by her brother Pidge (Joan) and nieces and nephews in BC, Alberta and Ontario and step-grandchildren Becky Douglas, Jane Newlands, Cathy Monteith and families. Thanks to Dr. Edwards, Madelyn, Sheryl, Dolly and to Maureen McIntosh and the loving caregivers at Point Grey Hospital.
