Richard M. BELLAMY

BELLAMY Dick (Richard M) Born July 18, 1938, passed away suddenly on September 29, 2009 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's. Born in Bristol, England, the eldest of six siblings, Dick will be remembered as a talented, multi-facetted artist. Although he began his career as a master glassblower in Bristol, photography and film were his true passion from an early age. After immigrating to Canada in the early 1960s, Dick began a lengthy, varied career as cameraman. Among the many productions he will be remembered for are The Beachcombers, The Nature of Things with David Suzuki, Dr Bundolo's Pandemonium Medicine Show, The Bitter Ash (the first independent feature length film made in Canada), and Hastings Street (a film started in 1963 and completed to great acclaim in 2005). He was also recipient of an Anik Award for his film on the work of Emily Carr. During his retirement years, Dick continued another lifelong passion of writing novels, short stories, and articles, always delighting in the joys of discovering new ways to create art with his computer and his imagination. He will be sadly missed by his children Katherine and Richard, his siblings in England, his extended family, and his many friends throughout the CBC. His eldest daughter, Joanne, predeceased him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 23rd at Hycroft, 1489 McRae Avenue in Vancouver at 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson's Foundation gratefully accepted.
