WILLIS Amanda Elizabeth (Betty) Born February 13th, 1921 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Betty passed away peacefully October 8, 2009 at Harmony Court Care Center, Burnaby, B.C. Predeceased by husband, Bill (1995) and sons Ted (1983), Paul (1999) and siblings, Mildred, Joyce and George. She is survived by her loving family of three sons, Bill (Robin), David (Lourdes), Alex (Cindy), her sister Gwen and daughters-in-law Elaine Willis, Kate Gallant as well as grandchildren Callisia and Theo and numerous nephews and nieces. Betty was a dedicated teacher who began her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Saskatchewan. After raising a family of five boys mom became the first ESL teacher in North Vancouver (SD 44), creating an imaginative, interactive curriculum providing new Canadians a firm footing in English as well as developing curriculum in reading, writing, listening, speaking and Canadian culture. Betty retired in 1984, thereafter dedicating time to her family, grandchildren and at her beloved home in Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast. A memorial celebration of Betty's life will be held at Capilano United Church, 2260 Phillip Ave, North Vancouver on Thursday, October 15th, 2009 at 2:00 PM. All who knew and loved Betty are welcome.
