James Ian Mervin WELLS

WELLS, James Ian Mervin Jim was born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan on February 2, 1922. He completed high school in Biggar and moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1945. Jim then went to work for Richardson's Road Machinery, where he met Adelaide Thomson. They were married in 1948. In 1958 Jim went to work for the Saskatchewan Power Corporation. He worked on many projects throughout the province including the Queen Elizabeth Power Station in Saskatoon and the E.B. Campbell hydroelectric project. He moved his family to Regina in 1960. His work with Saskatchewan Power included work on the Boundary Dam, Coronach and Coteau Creek projects. Jim took early retirement in 1982 and spent a number of years working as a volunteer for the Plains Historical Museum. He was past president of the Pile O'Bones Toastmasters Club and was named Outstanding Area Governor in 1978. He was also a devoted member and volunteer at Whitmore Park United Church. Jim and Addie were members of the Whitmore Pioneers Square Dance Club from 1962 and served as president couple three times. Jim's wife of 49 years, Adelaide, lost her battle with cancer in 1996. Jim was reunited with Phyllis Turner (Browne) his high school sweetheart and they were married the next year. Phyllis and Jim had only a few years together before cancer also took her. Jim passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2009. He is survived by his two sons, James (Diane) of Saskatoon and Tracy of Moose Jaw; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Valerie and Angel. The interment took place at the Regina Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to sign an online book of condolences at www.regina-memorial.ca .
