Jean M. BARRY

ODLUM Jean M. (nee Barry) On October 6, 2009, Jean M. Odlum, nee Barry, 82, of West Vancouver, passed away suddenly. Jean was born in Vancouver in 1927. In 1944, she married lightkeeper Gordon Odlum, the love of her life. Together, they kept the lights at Triple Island, Race Rocks and Point Atkinson. Living in isolation, having to make do with what was on hand, Jean learned to be intensely self-sufficient. She was a kind of superwoman, who was good at everything, from soldering and painting to gardening and baking. A talented singer, she filled her retirement with music and friends. The family thanks the angels at Capilano Care Centre, where Jean spent the last year of her life. And we thank her many friends at the Ambleside dog park who communicated so well with her when her words were failing. She is survived by her sister Joan Williams (Victor), daughter Ruth Raymond (Fred Dawkins), and so many friends who loved her dearly. A joyous celebration of her life will be held at St. Francis-in-the-Wood Anglican Church on Monday, Oct. 26 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
