Alexander MCLACHLAN

MCLACHLAN Alexander November 29, 1922 - October 11, 2009 Al (Alex) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 years, predeceased by his daughter Judy on January 4, 1950. (Luke 23:43) He was born in Glasgow Scotland, came to Vancouver at a young age, where he spent the majority of his life. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Nell, one daughter Mary Ann (Jack) two grandsons Kirk (Chelsea) and Jordan, one granddaughter Sandra (Jag) and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who remember him fondly, as well as close friends. His boys' greatest memories were taking the #3 Main bus with Grandpa to all their favourite spots in downtown Vancouver. Al was a construction electrician by trade, a 40 year member of the I.B.E.W. Union Local 213. He was present at the founding convention of the CCF, now known as the New Democrat Party and remained a loyal supporter throughout his life. Al was an avid fan of all sports. He was a popular guy and could be found either at the racetrack on weekends or at Fraser and 49th with his cronies. He loved Hastings Park and spent many happy days there. His favourite horse was "Princess Alex" (his namesake). There will be no funeral by request. Instead there will be a private family gathering at his special place to celebrate his life. He was a wonderful Grandpa, a great Dad, a good friend and we will all miss him. Very special thanks to the nursing staff at Gillis House in Merritt, BC for their wonderful care during Dad's last year.
