Eileen Margaret Chisholm With sadness her family announce the death of Eileen Margaret Chisholm on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at the age of 89 years. Eileen was born January 8, 1920 at Whitemouth, MB, the third child of Albert and Hattie (nee Gosnell) West. After the premature death of her father, Eileen returned with her family to the home of her grandparents at Carievale, SK, where she grew up and graduated from high school. She operated a rural telephone switchboard at Alameda, SK for two years, then enrolled in Brandon General Hospital School of Nursing at Brandon, MB, where she received her registered nurse's certification. In March 1945 she married Melvin Chisholm and together they moved to Saskatoon. Eileen was employed by St. Paul's Hospital as a head nurse for 35 years. She was dedicated to the profession and never forgot that the hospitals were there for the patients. Eileen enjoyed travel. Accompanied by her husband, she saw most of North America, Great Britain, Japan, Hong Kong, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. She spent her leisure time painting landscapes in oil, playing her organ and gardening. She was an accomplished alpine skier and had many happy ski holidays with her grandchildren at Banff. She was predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Kenneth West (Noreen) of Sarnia, ON, Frank West (Rita) of Toronto; brother-in-law, Cyril Gill of Toronto, ON. Left to mourn are her husband, of 64 years, Melvin Chisholm of Saskatoon, SK; son, Douglas Chisholm (Judy) of Kindersley, SK; sister, Leta Gill of Toronto, ON; grandchildren, Sean Chisholm (Sheila) of Morinville, AB, Leah Chisholm (Derek LaFramboise) of Victoria, BC, Amber Palafox (Jonelle) of Edmonton, AB; greatgrandchildren, Skyler, Kaileen and Cole of Morinville, AB, Taro of Victoria, BC; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Luther Special Care Home for their compassionate care and help at a difficult time. Rest in peace dear Eileen we will miss you very much. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Auditorium on the third floor of Luther Special Care Home, 1212 Osler Street, Saskatoon, with Reverend Heather Anderson officiating. Private interment later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Eileen to the Luther Special Care Home. Arrangements are in care of Martens Warman Funeral Home, 934-4888.
