SULPICO Maximo Barrido A gentle man and gentleman, Maximo Barrido Sulpico passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on the 14th of October, 2009 at Christine Morrison Hospice at M.M.H. Born on November 18, 1920 in Santa Barbara, Iloila, Philippines, Maximo was the oldest of seven children and is survived by his endlessly supportive and caring wife, Anita (nee Celestial). He left the Philippine army as captain and proceeded to work as Senior Security officer for a sugar plantation company from which he then retired, then immigrated to Canada with his wife in 1983. Living in many parts of the country and the United States with his children's families playing the role of wise, patient, and constant grandfather. He was a devout Catholic, arduous craftsman, avid reader of literature and philosophy, and an expert in Eskrima (Filipino martial arts). Maximo was a reserved, intelligent, and giving man who provided for his ever-growing family and instilled in them strong, moral values. "Tatay", "Lolo" will be dearly missed by all of his children: Noli Buyco (Seneca), Melende Paranpan (Vicente, Jr.), Noel Sulpico (TeodoraSimon), Rodolfo Sulpico (AgnesCamat), Cristina Durana (Romeo); grandchildren: Emily Mangum (Vaughn), Stephanie, Jonathan Buyco; Rita, Sarah Paranpan; Justin, Joshua, Joseph Sulpico; Roel, Rex, Alysha Sulpico; Matthew, Ian, Nathelle Durana; and great grandsons: Nicolas, Noah Mangum. Prayers and viewing will be held at Henderson's Funeral Home on Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00 p.m., 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, BC. The mass of Christian burial will follow the next day on Friday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joachim & Ann's Roman Catholic Church, located at 2827-273rd St., Aldergrove, BC.
