Tom Thomson August 16, 1926 October 29, 2009 On Thursday, October 29, 2009, Tom Thomson, of Success, Sask., died in the Kipling Health Center at the age of 83 years. A private graveside service will be held in the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, Sask., on Monday, November 2, 2009. Everyone is welcome to attend a memorial lunch that will be held in the Success Hall, Success, Sask., on Monday November 2nd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Thomas was born August 16, 1926 on the farm. Tom was named after his two grandfathers, Tom Thomson and Alfred Stayan. Tom went to school in Success and in Manitoba. Tom had many jobs working for farmers. He joined the army in 1945. He received his basic training in Dundurn, Sask., but did not go overseas, due to the fact that the war was nearly over. In 1947 Tom started buying grain at Brooks, Alta. He bought grain for many companies including Lake of the Woods, Pioneer Grain and Sask Wheat Pool at various locations. Tom drove school bus for many years and really loved the kids. He also loved seeding and harvest time. He was a sheep rancher. Tom had hobbies of many different kinds he enjoyed a hunting, curling, baseball player and fan, wood worker, and card player. Smear was his favorite game. Tom took an active part in the community. He was a willing participant where ever he was needed. Tom will be missed for his love, honesty, and encouragement by his family, friends and the community of Success. Tom was predeceased by his wife Lillian Carruthers in 2004, his parents Jim and Winifred Thomson. Tom is survived by son Tom Jr., Saskatoon, Sask., daughters Leila (Murray) Smyth, and Lorna (Clair) Dorrance both of Kennedy, Sask,., his grandchildren: Jill Dorrance, Kennedy; Curtis Smyth, Vermillion, Alta.; Tyler Smyth, Saskatoon and Justin Smyth, Kennedy.
