JANZ , Artur Albert March 7, 1933 - October 29, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Artur Janz; husband, father, Opa, brother, uncle and friend. On October 29, 2009, his family at his side, Art was welcomed by his Heavenly Father into a brand-new everlasting life to continue to worship Jesus as he had done for all his life here on earth. Art was born in 1933 in Lakendorf, East Prussia. He spent his early years in war-torn Germany. In 1951, together with his parents and his five brothers (of whom he was the second oldest), Art immigrated to Canada. The family settled in Calgary and has remained there since. In 1958 Art married his beautiful bride Erika Enns. Together they created a home with Jesus Christ as foundation, for themselves and their three daughters. Art was an active member of First Mennonite Church where he attended since his arrival in Calgary. Art loved life and he loved work. He lived with an open hand, giving generously of his time, skills and resources. After working years as a framer and carpenter Art devoted time to woodworking at which he was very talented. He generously donated many pieces to be sold at charity auctions or fundraisers. Art was gregarious, and loved hand puzzles, making them by the dozens in his shop to hand out. Countless people from preachers and politicians to doctors and used car salesmen have received an Art Janz cross puzzle with the words John 3:16 inscribed. Art was gracious, never held a grudge and forgave easily. These qualities endeared him to many adults and even children who adopted him as Opa. Above all he loved his Lord and Saviour and looked forward to going home to live with Jesus. Art is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Erika; daughters Karen (George) Veres, Marleen (Stephen) Lawlor, Sandra (Richard) Kaethler; grandchildren Kristin (Aaron) Hall, Matthew Veres, Brianna Veres, Madison Lawlor, Aleah Kaethler, Naomi Lawlor, Aaron Kaethler, Benjamin Kaethler, Holden Lawlor; five brothers Helmut (Hertha), Kurt (Ruth), Alfred (Ingrid), Henry (Ellie), Gerhard (Esther); brother-in-law Ike (Ruth) Enns; many special nieces and nephews and countless honorary children and grandchildren; and chosen son Steve Jensen. He was predeceased by granddaughter Claire. Special thanks to Dr. Roman, Dr. Conradie and all the wonderful nurses on Unit 84 who took such good care of our dad, especially Josephine who was there with us when he passed into Glory. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to MCC Alberta, No. 210, 2946 - 32 Street N.E., Calgary, Alberta T1Y 6J7. Visitation Thursday, November 5 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, 2600 Richmond Road S.W., Calgary; Graveside Service at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 12:12 p.m. at the Dalhousie Community Church, 5511 Baroc Road N.W., Calgary, Alberta.
