Margaret Gleason The family of Margaret Gleason is profoundly saddened to announce her peaceful passing on November 1st, 2009. Margaret was born January 2nd, 1914 to Hans and Rennaug Botten, Norwegian immigrants who had come to Canada in 1913 and settled in the Star City area. She spent her childhood and youth on the family farm. In 1937, at the age of 23, she married Gordon Young. Two sons were born of this union. In 1939, Gordon left to fight in WWII and was in Europe for most of the next 5 years. Upon his return, the adjustment was difficult and the marriage ended. In 1950, Margaret married Harry Gleason and settled with him on his farm at Lacadena, SK. They also purchased a home in Saskatoon, where Margaret spent the majority of her time. One daughter was born to them. Following the death of Harry in 1974, Margaret enjoyed a special friendship with Elvin Dyrland until his death in 1988. Margaret sold her home in the 1990's and lived for a number of years in Scott Tower, then resided at Extendicare until her passing. Margaret was a kind and loving mother and friend. She often put others' needs ahead of her own, especially those of her children. She faced adversity in her life with a sense of dignity and grace. Her faith was an integral part of her life. She began attending Augustana Lutheran Church in 1950 and volunteered in many different capacities with the church. She also was an avid reader and loved to write to friends and family throughout Canada. Many people commented on her lovely penmanship and style of writing. In her later years she contributed several articles to the "Sk Senior " newspaper, writing personal stories from the war years. In addition to those named above, Margaret was predeceased by her parents; an older brother, Alfred; two younger sisters, Rose and Olive; and her son-inlaw, Paul Graham. She is survived by the following: son, Wayne Young; son, Don (Carole) Young; daughter, Gwen Gleason-Graham (Tom Walsh); all of Saskatoon; daughter-in-law, Marion (Don) MacDonald of Edmonton. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Melanie Young (Bill Popowicz) and Randy Young of Saskatoon; Lindsay (Sandra) Young of Calgary; Bev (Ross) McMurdo, Wayne (Lasia) Young and Lyle (Melanie) Young, all of Edmonton; and their children twelve great grandchildren; and one great greatgranddaughter. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 6th at 1:00 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church (Broadway Ave. and 7th Street East, Saskatoon) with Pastor David Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Augustana Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice. Special thanks to the staff at Extendicare for their loving care and support. Arrangements in care of John Schachtel MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200).
