PODEHL, Wilfried Martin Instantly, as a result of a tree-felling accident, on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at age 68. Much beloved husband of Cordula Dobberstein. Loving and caring father of Olaf and Carsten. Brother of Reinhold, Ingrid and husband Peter, Gertraud and husband Albrecht. Uncle to many nephews and nieces. Born on November 29, 1940, in Koeningsberg, East Prussia, Martin passed the war years and his childhood in Germany where he met and married the love of his life Cordula in 1964. They brought their young family to Canada in 1969, eventually settling on the Farm in Farrellton where he used his skills as a carpenter, engineer and love of being a bushman on the surrounding land to create the family home. He worked for Statistics Canada from 1969 to 2006 with a two year sortie into the private sector. He was a loved and valued friend and colleague to many who shared his passion for biking, skiing, travel, music, hiking, kayaking, home brew and good fellowship. A tireless volunteer for the Wakefield community, he will be remembered in particular by the "La Ferme" group of bon vivants, the Castenchel Choir, Le Choeur Classique de l'Outaouais and the Statistics Canada Choir and his bicycling clubs. Friends are invited to visit at the McGarry Memorial Chapel, 139 Valley Road, Wakefield, on Tuesday, November 10th from 5 to 9 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, November 11th at 2 pm. The family would like to express their gratitude for all the support received and asks for continued prayers for Cordula. Donations to the Wakefield Community Centre or the Des Collines Health Foundation-Wakefield Memorial Hospital in memory of Martin appreciated. logo Published in the Ottawa Citizen from 11/4/2009 - 11/7/2009 Notice • Guest Book
