BURGESS, Barry In the early morning hours on Monday, November 2, 2009 Barry's life quietly slipped away into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior ending a four year struggle with complications from a degenerative neurological disease (Lewy Body Disease). He faced the disease with courage and strength. Born Michael Barry Burgess on July 9, 1946 in Ottawa, he was predeceased by his father Robert Joseph in 2002. Barry is survived by his loving wife of five years, Sharon; his mother Winnifred of Ottawa; daughter Kelly of Toronto; fraternal twin Bruce (Angela) of Ottawa; sister Kathy of Ingersoll and brother Randy (Colleen) of Nepean; and five nieces. He began his career as a radio announcer-operator with CBC in Inuvik, NWT which he held for 10 years. Barry transferred to CBC Regina where he did news and sports, TV movie capsules, then sports for many years. On the national CBC radio network he hosted A Joyful Sound, a one hour Sunday program of gospel and religious-styled songs, which ran from 1984 to 1988 out of Regina. In 1991 he was host to the Saskatchewan noon hour phone-in-show. From 1995 to June 30, 2002 Barry hosted the Saturday and Sunday morning show Saskatchewan Weekend form 6:00 to 9:00 a.m. During his career he did a number of interviews ranging from John Diefenbaker, Roger Whitaker to local musical talent, all memorable to him. Radio was his real passion. Barry also took great pride in presenting the description of the nominated titles for the Saskatchewan book awards for a number of years. Other interests include golfing, badminton, playing the trombone, bicycling, playing pool, listening to music and following the Saskatchewan Roughrider games. A special thank you to the Pioneer Village Adult Daycare Program staff, to Elmview Extendicare nurses and caregivers for their compassionate care during the last seven months of his life; and to Pastor Lindsay Hognestad for his comfort and guidance. A GATHERING with family and friends will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, SK on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Lindsay Hognestad officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Park Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Barry's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301, 2550 12 Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or to Saskatchewan Parkinson Disease Foundation, P.O.
