DUFOUR Emile June 11, 1921 November 1, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Emile Defour at the Veteran's Village, Sherbrooke Community Center on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the age of 88. Emile was born on June 11, 1921 in Ottawa, Ontario. He joined the services and at the young age of 19, was sent overseas working with the Engineer Corp during the Second World War. Upon his return he married Marie-Reine Le Page on June 24, 1943. They were stationed in Val Cartier, Quebec where they had one son Peter. They later moved west to Wainwright Alberta and then back to Ottawa, retiring from the services in 1969. He worked selling Knights of Columbus Insurance until his first grandson was born. They were on the move again, this time to Saskatoon. Emile worked with the Red Program, finding employment for less fortunate individuals and finally retired in 1981. Ed and Queenie travelled extensively over the years. They had made many friends in all their different stations and have kept in touch all these years. He loved to golf and during his retirement years, a daily game was the norm. He loved the outdoors so skating and cross country skiing was high on the list. He also was an artist and would sketch cartoons or paint water color scenes. He was always involved with the Catholic Church and especially with the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in helping to start counsels in numerous parishes across the country. He was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a respected legionnaire. Emile was pre-deceased by his only son, Peter in 2001. Emile is survived by his wife Marie-Reine of 66 years, daughter-in-law Dorothy; grandchildren Jean-Guy and Juanita; greatgrandson Christian. He also leaves behind one brother-in-law Gerard Juneau and numerous nieces and nephews in the Ottawa / Hull area. There will be prayers with family and friends on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7:00 pm at St. Augustine Parish . A Celebration Mass of Emile's life will be on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 10:30 am at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church (602 Boychuk Drive). Cremation to follow with interment in the family plot in Ottawa. In memory of Emile the family requests donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers.
