Lt Justin G Boyes February 6, 1983 October 28, 2009 Justin Garrett Boyes, our selfless warrior was born February 6th, 1983 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon to proud parents Brian and Angela. Holding those 8 pounds 5.5 ounces of miracle baby for the first time, his parents knew he would be an amazing man and lead a purposeful, extraordinary life. The first of three children, Justin loved being a big brother to Curtis and Lindsay. Even in this, his first leadership role, Justin was a trailblazer making the path to adulthood easier for his siblings. Wise and intuitive, as a very young child he observed the weight of the harsh reality of inequality and disappointment in the world and felt a need to carry responsibility. Remaining to continue his legacy and celebrate a life well lived are his loving wife Alanna and two-year-old son James, his parents Brian and Angela, brother Curtis, and sister Lindsay (Adam) Knox, his Grandma Magna Boyes, Grandpa Vincent Heagy, his parents-in-law Brian and Joan Gibb, sister-in-law Valerie Gibb, and brother-in-law Kurt Gibb. He also leaves behind treasured aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and brothers-in-arms. He was predeceased by his Grandpa Thomas Boyes, Grandma Selma Heagy, and Aunt Bernice Boyes. Justin grew up in Saskatoon and graduated from Evan Hardy Collegiate. While there, Justin developed his talent as a musician (trumpeter), playing in the jazz and school bands. Justin was committed to his High School football team, sharing in the victory of the 2001 Provincial High School Football Championship. He won the 2001 award for male leadership. The world was not his stage but Justin took pride performing in high school productions in various roles. Most notably, he played Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music, singing Edelweiss with authentic conviction. Justin proudly earned and paid for his education at the U of S working as a reservist with the North Saskatchewan Regiment. Justin interrupted his studies to serve his first tour in Afghanistan in 2004. Upon returning, Justin completed his degree and convocated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Studies in 2006. Upon completion of his degree, Justin started his full-time military career. This included second language training in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC in 2007 and three phases of Officer training at CFB Gagetown, NB. Justin was granted his Queen's Commission March 9, 2007 to serve as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Canadian Infantry. He received his first posting as a platoon commander with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton in 2008. In 2007 Justin discovered the beauty in life; marriage and fatherhood. He loved unconditionally, patiently and faithfully. There is no one more deserving to been blessed with fatherhood, for he was always gracious, patient, protective, gentle and tender with his son. Open arms and open ears; the love was always near. A man of modesty, he disliked luxury and the constant press of modernization. He hated the fact that he had to get e-mail and a cell phone just because everyone else did. Yet in his professional life as an Officer, he gained the respect and honour of many by embracing his values of hard work, dedication, commitment, and perseverance. The profession he chose epitomized his values and beliefs. Justin expressed himself through a passion for music (trumpeter, guitarist), knowledge (an avid reader), drawing (winning awards for his work), culture, history and theatre. A Celebration of Justin's life will be held at the Circle Drive Alliance Church in Saskatoon on Saturday, November 7th at 1:00 p.m. Email condolence's to be sent to mail@saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are in care of Saskatoon Funeral Home. Interment to follow in the Field of Honor (Woodlawn Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, a trust will be set up for Justin and Alanna's son, James.
