John Henry GLOVER

GLOVER, John Henry Jack" 1924-2009 Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 4, 2009 at Selkirk Place in Victoria. Born in Calgary, he moved to Winnipeg as a young boy, where he later met, Phyl, the love of his life. After serving in the Navy overseas during WWII, he returned to finish his courses at the University of Manitoba. Jack and Phyl were married in '48 and moved to Nanaimo where Jack started work as a fisheries research biologist. After deciding to leave the fish behind, with first daughter Sally (Stu Nemtin) in tow, they moved to Vancouver to start a lifelong career in life insurance. Son, Ken (Lorraine), was added to the family there and when they transferred to Winnipeg daughter Ginny (David Stuart) completed the family. Further transfers led the family back to Vancouver, then to Victoria, Calgary and back to Victoria where Jack and Phyl retired in 1982. Jack was competitive and always had a passion for sports. In his university years it was long distance running and basketball, then duck hunting and tennis, and golf and cards until he end. His grandchildren (Breanne, Benny, Emma, Dana, Simon, Maggie, Bronwyn, Gareth, Michael and Karley) always put a smile on his face and brought pride and joy to his heart. Jack will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends, but none more so than Phyl, his wife of 61 years. The family would like to send special thanks to all of the staff at Selkirk Place throughout his last year and to Dr. David Bell for all the loving care and attention to Jack. On Saturday, November 7 a remembrance of Jack's life will be held at St. George's Anglican Church (Maynard St. in Cadboro Bay) at 12 noon followed by a reception in his honour at the Victoria Golf Club. 567737 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 11/5/2009 - 11/7/2009
