Simone LURON

Simone Luron May 4, 1920-October 9, 2009 Simone Luron was born on a farm outside Ponteix, Sask. French was her first language and she used that to her advantage when she left the farm to begin a long, fulfilling teaching career. She attended Teachers College in Moose Jaw, then first taught in the Notekeu Creek school which is near Vanguard, Sk. Eventually she moved on to Carnduff, Gull Lake, Swift Current and finally Regina where she also obtained her Bachelor of Education. She taught and loved her students from 1959 to 1979 and was loved by them in return, taking them on several field and exchange trips. In her retirement years she was particularly fond of the times when she was out and about in Regina and would hear Miss Luron, Miss Luron. Many of her former students would stop to say hello and she always remembered them. To family, she was a treasure. She was Aunty Simone to us, and even to our friends. Never having been married (although having received several offers!) or having children, she loved, worried about, supported and encouraged each of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own. As children we all looked forward to the time when we were old enough to have a sleep over at Aunty's, where we would have her undivided attention and many treats, we were never disappointed. As adults we enjoyed her wonderful sense of humour, her stories about her students and travels and as always, her very giving nature. When not teaching or with family, Simone loved to travel with her many dear friends. She visited Alaska, the Yukon and Western Europe where she met many relatives in France with whom she kept in touch. She also toured much of the United States, enjoyed a Caribbean and a Mediterranean cruise, went on a trip to Australia and New Zealand and of course travelled to every province in Canada. She and her friends also enjoyed spirited games of bridge, as well as the Arts in Regina. When she retired, Simone volunteered in the children's wing of the General Hospital, her love of children was a constant thread in her life. She also loved to knit and read, her hands and her mind were rarely idle. Simone was predeceased by her parents Angelique (Lebarzic) and Alexandre Luron, brother Roland Luron, her sister Anna and brother-in-law Tony Giroux, her brother Robert and sister-in-law Laurette Luron, 2 nephews, Marcel and Guy Giroux and several close friends. She is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews who miss her dearly but are grateful for the years we had together, knowing we were loved by a very special woman. Aunty always maintained a wonderful faith in God and we take comfort in knowing that she is not gone forever, she has just moved a little further away. Published in the Regina Leader-Post on 11/7/2009
