ENGLISH Marcus Gunn (Mickey) October 1st, 1921 - November 3rd, 2009 Marcus Gunn English (Mickey) born October 1st, 1921 in Salisbury, England passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2009 in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Grace (Gee), Jennifer English and Jan Talbot of Victoria: Patrick English of Nanaimo and Kelly English of Steveston; Carol Brown of Summerland and Gordon Brown of Vancouver; 4 grandchildren: Grace (Shawn) Ponto, David (Erin) Brown, Kenneth (Jessica) English and Marcus English, also 3 great-grandchildren Spencer, Timothy and Cole, as well as the many relatives and friends in the UK and Canada who loved and supported him. Following his school years in England, Mickey joined the Royal Warwickshire Regiment in Birmingham in 1940. He volunteered for the Indian Army Services, and commissioned into the Scinde Horse Regiment in Karachi in 1942. He attained the rank of Major, before returning to the UK in late 1945. Mick immigrated to Canada in 1950, after marrying Grace Longbourne in 1947. He worked for MacMillan Bloedel Lumber Company for 32 years, living in Crofton, Port Alberni, Powell River and Vancouver, before retiring to Galiano Island in 1982. His holidays from retirement were happily spent with his camera and at his cabin on Puntzi Lake in the Chilcotins where he introduced his grandchildren to the fine art of trout fishing. In August, 2005, Mick and Gee moved to Saanichton. We wish to thank Dr. J. Baidwan and Dr. M. Bater and the staff of Selkirk Lodge and West 3 at the RJH for their great kindness and professional care they gave our father. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canuck Place Children's Hospice Society, 1690 Matthews Avenue, Vancouver, BC, V6J 2T2. A celebration of Mickey's life will be held Wednesday, November 11th, 2009, 2 - 5 PM, at the Fireside Grill, 4509 West Saanich Road, Victoria, BC.
