OBITUARY ERNIE ROSS Aged eighty-six, of Shediac, N.B. passed away peacefully in his sleep November 8, 2009 at Canterbury Hall, Riverview, N.B. Predeceased by his loving wife Barbara (nee Taylor) of 43 years, and youngest daughter Barbie. Ernie was born and raised in Quebec City. He was the 6th generation of the ROSS family that had emigrated to Quebec City from England in the early 1700's. His mother, Hazel Tait, was from a large well-known family from Shediac, N.B. and Ernie has numerous members of his maternal family still living in the Maritimes. His father, Ernest Edward Ross, was a well known entrepreneur in Quebec City. As a youth, his summers were spent in Shediac along with his many cousins at "Elmbank", the old Tait family home. Ernie attended Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B. and served briefly in the Canadian Army in 1944-45. Ernie was an outstanding athlete at university and, upon graduation, he entered the family business in Quebec City. After the company was sold to US-based Warner's in the early 1960's, he became a successful stockbroker with Wood Gundy for the balance of his career. Ernie retired in the mid 1980's and he and Barbara built their retirement home in Shediac, N.B. Ernie was the proud recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, bestowed by Rotary International, in recognition of a life time of outstanding community service. He was predeceased this year by his sister, Margaret Mac Clement, in Kelowna, B.C. Affectionately known as "EP", Ernie is survived by his two daughters Margaret "Peggy" Ross Andersen (Morten) of Brampton, ON, Beverley Tait Ross Fielding (Tim) of Fredericton, N.B., his grandsons Ross and Steven Andersen, granddaughters Zoe, Gillian and Taylor Fielding and one great-granddaughter, Layla Austen. Survived by his beloved cousins, Mary Fraser, Carolyn MacIntosh and Eleanor O'Brien. He will be missed by his life long friends in Quebec City. In lieu of flowers, kindly make any donations to the Barbie Ross Scholarship at Carleton University. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church in Shediac, N.B. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. Ernie's ashes will be interred with Barbara's at Greenwood Cemetery in Shediac, N.B.
