HORNER, Dorothy Eileen It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Eileen Horner on November 11, 2009. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on April 3, 1920 she came to Canada at thirteen years of age. Eventually, she met her true love, Philip, married and started her family. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends at the time of passing. She was predeceased by her brother Ian Cran (1965), her son Gerald (1996), and her husband Philip (2003). She will be sadly missed by her brother William Cromarty and wife Charlotte, daughter Cathy MacDonald and husband John, and daughter in law Arlene Beneteau (Homer). She leaves behind many loving grandchildren: Kim and Chuck Harris, Ian and Shannon MacDonald, Drs Sara and Michael Bachman, Alison Homer, as well as many great grandchildren: Amber, Gage, Kai, Aislyn, Abby, Samantha and Cohen. Several nieces, nephews and family in England survive.She was a mother devoted to her family and Trinity United Church serving in the Sunday school, UCW, and the Choir. She particularly enjoyed social activities with family and friends, whether volunteering, bowling, swimming, or playing cards. She always had a huge smile and kind word for everyone. Quick to laugh, she thoroughly enjoyed life. She spent the last eight years living at Chartwell Oak Park Terrace thoroughly enjoying her second home and all of its activities. She developed many lasting friendships with the staff and residents and loved her second home. Mom, Grandma, Nana, and GG will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held at the Victoria Greenlawn Memorial Chapel and Visitation Centre, 1525 Highway # 3 Oldcastle from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday November 13, 2009 and from 9:30 am Saturday November 14, 2009 until the time of the funeral service in the chapel at 11am with Rev. Laura Jo Marzec officiating. Interment Victoria Memorial Cemetery. If desired, donations in kindness may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
