BARRIE, Vera Evelyn Nov. 3, 1916 Nov. 18, 2008 Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Vera was a shy slip of a girl who loved to dance. At 15 she met Andrew Barrie who was looking for an adagio and acrobatics partner. They married a year later in 1933 and performed on stage in Winnipeg and Montreal. In 1936, they retired from the stage and moved to Edmonton where all of their five children were born. In 1963, after a successful career in general contracting, Vera and Andrew retired to Victoria and enjoyed a long, healthy and active retirement. Vera passed away shortly after her 92nd birthday. She was predeceased by her daughter Elaine Wade in 1996. Her husband Andrew passed away in 2003 shortly before they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Vera was also predeceased by two grandsons Brent Barrie and Dean Barrie. She leaves behind to mourn her loss her children Wayne (Edythe), Bruce, Brenda Antonson (Terry) and Joan Dean (Guy), as well as nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and her loyal friends Gwen and Stella. Besides her deep passion for her husband and family, Vera was an accomplished artist and poet. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 2 p.m. at First Memorial Funeral Services in Royal Oak.
