KELLY, Mary Elizabeth (Gwinnett) June 23,1912 November 22, 2008 A determined cyclist well into her `80`s; Gwinnett defied many stereo-typical expectations throughout her life. At age 20, she taught school in Bristol until, in 1948 she said good-bye to family and friends leaving the family home near Stroud, Gloucester, U.K. Gwinnett, also known as Mary, Gwinn and Betts, ventured out to Canada where she met her future husband, a logger in Port Renfrew with impressive practical skills. The Kelly`s managed their apartment building on Esquimalt Road across from the present-day Renaissance; while Gwinnett continued her teaching career. Gwinn`s lifetime interests included a devotion to religion, politics, travel, poetry and charitable endeavours like reading for blind people. In recent years, Gwinnett especially enjoyed the residents and caring staff at the Renaissance. Married for over 30 years, she was pre-deceased by husband, Ray Kelly in 1985, brother George Hague and step-son John Kelly. Gwinnett is remembered by daughters Bea (Ian) McKenzie, Laura (Brian) King, grandchildren David, Diane, Lana, Alynn, Jamie, Jennifer, Kyle and 3 great grandchildren. Thanks to VGH orthopedics, RJH acute care and very helpful Sunset Lodge Staff. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul`s Anglican Church. A service will be held at St. Paul`s Anglican Church,1379 Esquimalt Road on Thursday, Nov. 27th, 2pm. 514338 Published in the Victoria Times-Colonist from 11/26/2008 - 11/27/2008
