MICKLEBURGH, Brita Helena - Peacefully in Newmarket on 27, December 2008. Deeply mourned by her children, Rod, Norma, Paul and Pauline; and her sister, Greta. Loving grandmother of Matthew Gus and Mia Adele. Predeceased by brother, Karl Gustav and parents, Ida Kristina and Paul Victor. Brita Mickleburgh earned a B.A. Honours (English) at UBC in 1941, and a M.A. at University of Toronto in 1967. Her career at Newmarket High School and as Department Head for English at Huron Heights Secondary School was enriched by growing interest in Canadian literature. Brita's work to develop curricula on emerging writers like Margaret Laurence and Robertson Davies led to her book, Canadian Literature: Two Centuries in Prose (1973, McClelland & Stewart). Friends may call at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main St. S., Newmarket, on Friday, 2 January from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Memorial Service on Saturday, 3 January at 2 p.m., also at Roadhouse & Rose.
