GRANT, William A., c.r. «Do not go gently into that good night» Dylan Thomas Il s'est éteint paisiblement chez lui à Montréal le 9 novembre 2009 à 88 ans. Fils unique du Général de Brigade Aérienne RCAF Reginald et Lilah (Fairbairn) Grant. Sa première femme, Denyse (Morin) l'avait prédécédé en 1981 ainsi que sa fille Marian en 2007 (Pierre Quesnel). Outre sa femme Nancy Gigot et sa fille Susan (Robert Berger), il laisse dans le deuil son fils Philip et ses petits-enfants Jessica, Katharine, Jonathan, Philippe-William et Nicholas. Il laisse également dans le deuil ses belles-filles Janet, Mary et Sally et son beau-fils Ward ainsi que leurs familles. Né à Toronto, Bill a étudié au Ashbury College puis à McGill. Durant la Deuxième guerre mondiale, il a servi comme Premier Lieutenant dans la 1ère Division d'Infanterie canadienne lors du débarquement en Sicile et a notamment pris part à la prise d'Ortona, une victoire importante. En 1945, il a participé à l'assaut final en Hollande. Il a été admis au Barreau du Québec en 1948 et s'est joint à la firme Brown Montgomery (Ogilvy Renault). Comme associé sénior, il a dirigé le département de litige pendant des années et a été nommé au American College of Trial Lawyers. Tous se rappelleront de lui comme d'un canadien fier, un vrai gentleman et quelqu'un doué d'un merveilleux sens de l'humour. Merci au personnel de Garde Confort, du Château Royal et de NOVA. Fought bravely, died peacefully at home in Montreal on November 9, 2009 at the age of eighty-eight. Only child of Air Commodore (RCAF) Reginald and Lilah (Fairbairn). He was predeceased by his first wife Denyse (Morin) in 1981 and his daughter Marian in 2007 (Pierre Quesnel). He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Nancy Gigot Grant, his daughter Susan (Robert Berger), son Philip and grandchildren Jessica, Katharine, Jonathan, Philippe-William and Nicholas. He also leaves his step-children Janet, Ward, Mary and Sally and their families. William (Bill) grew up in Ottawa and was educated at Ashbury College and McGill University. During WWII, he served as First Lieutenant with the Canadian 1st Infantry Division landing in Sicily and later saw action at the decisive victory at Ortona. In 1945 he participated in the final push through Holland. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1948 and later joined Brown Montgomery (Ogilvy Renault). As a senior partner of the firm he led the litigation department for many years. He was nominated to the American College of Trial Lawyers and later congratulated for 50 years with the Montreal Bar. He will be remembered as a proud Canadian, true gentleman and one who enjoyed a wonderful sense of humour. Many thanks to the care-givers of Comfort Keepers, the Chateau Royal and NOVA.
