CHILDS 2009-11-29 Edward William (Bill) Childs passed away peacefully Thursday, November 26, 2009. Born on July 29, 1930 son of the late Alfred J. and Mary Childs, he lived his entire life in Thunder Bay. Bill married Kathryn Jean Maloney on October 30, 1954 and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Bill began his working career at the age of sixteen working for his father Alf senior at A.J. Childs Ltd. He and his brother Alf were third generation plasterers and together they later ran the business; working alongside family as well as friends and other long-time employees. He was known to love a good story or two with family and friends. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was a Life Member of the Black Stump Hunt Club at Kab Lake where he enjoyed fishing and hunting through the years. He was a long-time curler at the Fort William Curling Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge #415, and a regular player in his poker club. He enjoyed trips to Toronto to visit his family and vacations to Las Vegas with Kathy and their friends. Bill and Kathy walked for years to the mall, to the downtown or just down the street to join the McDonald‘s coffee gang. Many good times were shared at Sunnyside Beach with the Childs clan. Bill is survived by his wife Kathryn, son Scott and his wife Jill, cherished grandson Zac; son Jeff and his partner Lauri all of whom reside in Toronto; sister-in-law Lillian Childs, brother-in-laws George, Jim and Danny (Carol Ann) Maloney, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great nieces in Thunder Bay and across the country. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 30th at First Church United, Westfort at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jan Stevenson officiating, followed by a private family interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to attend the reception at the Valhalla. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Bill Childs in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
