Gordon PITT

PITT, GORDON A. - The death of Gordon Pitt of Public Landing formerly of Grand Bay, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 26, 2004. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Arnold and Gladys (Crocker) Pitt and the loving husband of Marion Margaret (Henderson) Pitt. Gordon was a life long resident of the Grand Bay area. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Royal Canadian Navy in North Atlantic, Europe, France, Mediterranean, Japan, Alaska and Russia. He served on Corvette's and was on the St. Croix, which was torpedoed off the coast of England. He served on the Light Cruiser Ontario. Mr. Pitt was among the few Navy personnel to receive the Burma Star. A member of the Royal Canadian Legion - Greenwich Branch and attended the Brown's Flat United Baptist Church. Gordon worked for R.A. Corbett Construction and was the Foreman involved in the reconstruction on Trinity Anglican Steeple. He was also responsible for the transportation and relocation of Barbours General Store and the School House at Loyalist Plaza. Gordon worked extensively for the Bank of Nova Scotia and built the North End Branch. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son David (Kristal) Pitt and family Dylan, Kristian of Rothesay, NB, one daughter Margo (David) Wilkins and family, Karrie and Krista of Public Landing, two sisters Doreen Nichol (Doug) of Public Landing and Angela Miller of Fredericton, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Gordon was predeceased by one sister Jean Salbo. Resting at the A.W. Cavanagh Funeral Home, 91 Leinster Street (635-1712) with visiting on Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. The funeral service will be held in Cavanagh's chapel on Monday March 1st at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will be in Ocean View Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, IWK Children's Hospital or the Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital. A tribute to a veteran service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m..
