Mr. Claude MacDonald 1924-2009 Miramichi - Mr. Claude MacDonald, husband of Mary MacDonald, of Springvale Avenue, Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Saturday, December 26, 2009, at the age of 85. Born in Black River Bridge, on August 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Basil O. and Ida Mae (MacDonald) MacDonald. He was a retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces (R.C.A.F.) retiring with the rank of Warrant Officer. Following his military career, he was self employed in the trucking business. He was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada with the R.C.A.F. and was a member of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, Miramichi. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary L. Smith; four daughters, Gail MacDonald, Catherine MacDonald (Ollie), Judy Sloan (Terry), Lynn Mercure (Gerard), all of Miramichi; two sons, Gerry MacDonald (Joan), of Ajax, Ont. and Ed MacDonald, of Mississauga, Ont.; one brother, Reg MacDonald (Margie), of Miramichi; two half sisters, Sandra Schofield (Patrick), of Ontario and Debbie Flieger (Bill), of Miramichi; four grandchildren, Nathan, Kira, Jarrad, Chase; two great grandchildren, Ethan and Valentina. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ethel Taylor and Mary Damon; three brothers, Jack, Osbourne and Harold MacDonald. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday only, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Michaels Basilica, on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at 11 am, conducted by Father John Fraser, assisted by Father Leon Creamer. Interment will be in St. Michaels Cemetery, later in the spring. Please note vigil prayers will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon, at 1:50pm. Members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion, are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, at 7:30, for a Veterans' Service.
