Black: Laurene Christina 1924 - 2004 Laurene Christina Black was born in Eureka, South Dakota, USA, on August 18, 1924. She was the eighteenth of nineteen children born to Christian and Christina Bertsch. Her family moved to the Carbon area in 1929 where they farmed. Laurene attended the Humbolt School and Zion Baptist Church. She accepted Christ at an early age and was later baptized on her brother-in-law Art Forsch's property. In 1947 she moved with her mother and 3 siblings to Drumheller where soon after they began attending First Regular (now Fellowship) Baptist Church. In 1951 she married Roy Blehm and they had four sons together, but Roy died in 1962. In 1964 Laurene married Lawrence Black and gained a daughter, Faith. Laurene is survived by her husband Lawrence, one daughter and son-in-law Faith and Harry Wilnechenko of Red Deer, and four sons and daughters-in-law: Lyle and Gwen of Edmonton, Dwain and Diane of Winfield, BC, Rod and Donna of Three Hills, and Neal and June of Campbell River. She has 16 grandchildren: Yvonne (Syd), Lynne, Heather, Shawna, Darryl (Carolyn), Vicki, Kevin (Myriam), Michelle (Ryan), Christina, Shane, Stephen, Cameron, Emma, Graham, Stephanie and Mindy; and four great-grandchildren: Amber, Ashley, Isaac and Caileb. She is also survived by her sisters Esther Bertsch, Tillie Siebel and Irene Bertsch. On October 20, 2004 Laurene Black passed away and went home to be with her Lord. Her family happily rises up to call her Blessed. The family especially wishes to express its appreciation and thanks to Dr. J.F. Neffgin, Dr. Mark Lyle and the staff of the Drumheller Hospital for their kind help and service. Donations in her memory can be made to the Heart to Heart Society, care of the Drumheller Hospital.
