Smith: James November 22, 1919 - November 20, 2004 Jim passed away peacefully on November 20, 2004 at the Drumheller Continuing Care just short of his 85th birthday. He will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Bessie, of 55 years; his son George; his daughter Darlene; his grandchildren Jason and Leanne, who gave him numerous hours of joy; numerous sisters-in-laws; and his brother-in-law and special friend, George Martin. Jim was born in Bervie, Scotland; the second oldest of six children. The family moved to Canada when Jim was seven and they settled in the Springwater - Lloyd George area. He attended Lloyd George school until he went to work helping his father with farming and trucking. In 1941, he joined the armed forces under the RCEME, 2nd Armoured Tank Brigade. He proudly became Staff Sergeant and served i England, France, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in 1946 and returned to take over the family farm. Jim married Bessie Martin, August 3, 1949, and they raised two children. Besides framing, he worked as an electrician, a mechanic and welder for two winters with his brother George in the Coleville area. In 1972, Jim, Bessie and George moved to Delia where he resided until recently. Jim volunteered generously over the years, helping anyone with electrical problems at any time of the day or night. He also became a Life Time Member of the Delia Legion and Elks. Jim never retired, but in his later years he loved gardening. His animals always held a special place in his heart. He remained ever faithful to his Ford and John Deere vehicles. Jim was predeceased by his father George, his mother Christina, his brothers George and John, and his sisters Anne, Chrissie and Mabel. A special thank you to everyone who faithfully visited, phoned, sent cards and/or goodies and cared for him so patiently and lovingly. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 26th at the Delia Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at he Delia Cemetery.
