BARBARA ROSE MCLEOD Barbara Rose McLeod, 76, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004. Mrs. McLeod was born Dec. 1, 1927 in Emo, Ont., where she was raised. She began her teaching career in Finland, Ont. and later taught in North Branch, Ont. before taking time off to raise her family. She later returned to the workforce and taught at the Fort Kinhaven School and then at Huffman School in Fort Frances. She retired in June, 1984 at the age of 57. She enjoyed reading and sewing, and was a member of Knox United Church and the U.C.W. when she was younger. She also was a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Later in life, she took her evenings, weekends, and summer and received her B.A. in 1976, which she was very proud of. Barbara was united in marriage on May 2, 1947 to Ernie McLeod, who survives along with their three children, Carol (Robert) Readman of Parksville, B.C., Jane (David) Ferguson of Winnipeg, Man., and Mark (Donna) McLeod of VanKleek Hill, Ont. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Robyn (Bill) Swartz of Thunder Bay, Ont., Todd (Jennifer) Readman of Calgary, Alta., Kirk Readman of Thunder Bay, Ont., Lana Diduch of Winnipeg, Man., Jason (Christine) Ferguson and Christopher (Jody) Ferguson, all of Winnipeg, and John, Sarah, Jennifer, and Margaret McLeod, all of VanKleek Hill, Ont.; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Batson, Liam Swartz, and Alexis Ferguson; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Harriet Field; and her twin sisters, Marjorie Colley and Peggy Williams. A private family service was held Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rainycrest chaplain John Chornabay officiated, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. The pallbearers were Barbara’s grandchildren. They remain with us only in memory, their work on Earth is done. By honest toil throughout the years, their wages they have won. The hour of twelve has struck on high, that called them to their rest. No more for cares of Earth they’ll sigh, they are now forever blessed.
