GLADYS MAUDE BIRSTON Gladys Maude Birston (nee Westover), 100, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. Gladys was born Feb. 13, 1904 in Barwick, Ont. to the late William and Helen Westover. She was raised in Barwick and then moved to Saskatchewan. She spent most of her working life at Island Falls, where she worked for Churchill River Power. She retired to Flin Flon, Man. in 1969. She later moved back to the district and settled in Stratton, Ont., where she lived until moving to Rainycrest in 1997. Gladys is survived by her daughter, Arles Peacock of Winnipeg, Man.; two granddaughters, Marianne (Robert) Hougaard of Surrey, B.C., and Laurel Dawn (Vic) Fulwiler of Nanaimo, B.C.; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Sydney Clifford Birston in 1947; parents, William and Helen Westover; four brothers, Don, Milt, Roy, and Harold Westover; and two sisters, Flo Patterson and Reta Gibson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Tony Geense officiating. The honourary pallbearers will be her nephews, Fred Westover, Milt Westover, Bill Westover, Jack Westover, Glenn Westover, Ross Westover, Chuck Westover, Russell Westover, Murry Gibson, Brian Gibson, and Gary Gibson. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Box 444, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 3M8.
