AMELIA JEANETTE O’NEILL Jeanette O’Neill, 87, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. She was born March 22, 1917 in LaVallee, Ont., to the late George and Florabelle McTavish. Jeanette was raised and attended elementary school in LaVallee, High School in Fort Frances and graduated from North Bay Normal School in 1938. She then taught school at a one room schoolhouse in the Rainy River District until her marriage. On June 7, 1940 she married John (Jack) Walker in Rainy River, Ont. They lived in Rainy River and Kenora before moving to Fort Frances in 1950. She was actively involved in the Fort Frances Ladies Curling Club, The Order Of The Royal Purple, Knox United Church Women and Redwing Rebekah Lodge until her later years. After her retirement in 1977 she took up golfing and attained a hole in one in 1984. She also enjoyed playing bridge, bowling, and going to the lake cottage. On March 25, 1977 she married Anthony (Tony) O’Neill in Fort Frances, Ont. They spent many enjoyable years together, travelling in Canada, to Mexico, Barbados and Hawaii. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florabelle McTavish, her first husband Jack Walker; brothers Stewart, Hugh, Jack and George McTavish; sisters, Evelyn Hemmens, Eileen Skyes and Flora Evans. Survivors include her husband Tony O’Neill of Fort Frances; daughter, Valerie and husband, Ben Sjoblom of Int’l. Falls, Mn.; son, David Walker of Vancouver, B.C.; grandson, Jason Sjoblom of Int’l. Falls, Mn.; great-grandson, Joshua Hartnell of Amarillo, TX.; stepdaughter, Grace O’Neill of Winnipeg, MB; sisters, Kathleen Whalen of Fort Frances, Ont, and Belle Lofgren of Penticton, B.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. A Redwing Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 7:30 p.m. with parish prayers to follow. Funeral mass will be held Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances, Ont. Father Francis Pudicherry will officiate with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ont. The pallbearers will be Don McTavish, Ken McTavish, Ron McTavish, Bob McTavish, Allan McTavish and Doug McTavish. If friends so desire, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Society, P.O. Box 837, Kenora, Ont. P9N 4B5.
