ADELE MARKOWSKI With deep sadness we announce the passing of Adele, our wife, mother and Baba. She left us on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 with her family by her side. Adele was born on August 23, 1929 in Theodore, Saskatchewan to William and Maria Denesyk. She headed east and landed in Fort Frances in the 1950’s to live with her sister Mary and begin work. Clerking at Biblo’s Confectionery store, she met Alex and married her life partner on July 18, 1953. They had recently celebrated 50 blissful years of marriage. Adele was a devoted member of the St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church and an active member of the St. Anna’s Ladies Club. She was a competitive baseball player for the White Pine Inn, where she played the sacred backcatcher position. In the back room, she has collected 30 years worth of bowling trophies from the Plaza Lanes. Moose hunting in the cut-overs, fishing in their favourite lakes (we can’t tell where), gardening vegetables and flowers were many of her passions. Cross-stitching for the quiet times watching “The Price is Right” or card playing into the wee hours were one of her hobbies and forms of entertainment. Alex and Adele would leave the blustery, Canadian winters and head south to visit family and friends and to try her luck on the slots. Trips were made to Dryden to visit the “babies,” hunt for Christmas trees or share her culinary dishes “hollopchee (cabbage rolls) and petahe (pyrogies).” Adele was predeceased by her son, Mark Markowski; five brothers, John, Matt, Alex, Mike and Steve Denesyk; one sister, Mary Kitzul, and parents Maria and William. She is survived by her husband, Alex Markwoski of Fort Frances, Ont.; one son, Alan, wife Carla, and two grandchildren, Tianna and Kirk of Dryden, Ont. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Cecelia--Theodore, Sask.; Frances--Yorkton, Sask.; Lena--Winnipeg, Man.; Mary Briggs, Bill and Leona Markowski of Eau Claire, Wisc.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services celebrating her life will held on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. Reverend Father Michael Kopchuk will officiate, with interment at the Riverview Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers will be: Rita Bagacki, Gert D’Agostini, Mary Kingerski, Kay Beaushene, Verla Scott, Mary Hyatt, St. Anna’s Club members and may other family members and friends. Active pallbearers will be: Shaun and Guy Bagacki, Ken, Ed and Wally Denesyk and Brian Markowski. In memoriam the family asks that donations may be made to either Riverside Health Care Facilities, 110 Victoria Ave., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2B7, or the Kenora-Rainy River Lung Association, Box 67, Kenora, Ont., P9N 3X4. We will miss you Baba as we round the corner to your lounge chair, we will always remember you. We promise to take good care of Gigi!
