EDNA LUELLA ELIZABETH CLARKE Edna Clarke, of the Golden Age Manor in Emo, Ont., passed away peacefully at the Emo Hospital on Wednesday, July 14, 2004. Edna was born July 8, 1912 in Barwick, Ont. to the late William and Ordasa Horley. She was united in marriage to Daniel Clarke in October, 1932. They settled in the farming community north of Barwick and raised their family. In 1970, they moved to the village of Barwick. As well as working on the family farm, Edna also worked outside the home for Gill’s Store and as a cook at several tourist camps. She was very involved in community functions. In later years, she was very active in The Seniors Club. Gardening, curling, sewing, crocheting, and tatting were some of her pastimes. Together with her many life-long friends, many quilts were hand-made for each one of her children and grandchildren. Edna is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jeanne (Frank) Reynolds of Sherwood Park, Alta., Ruby Ellek of Atikokan, Ont., Evelyn (Cal) Varey of Winnipeg, Man., and Joyce (Gordon) Flatt of Fort Frances, Ont.; and two sons, George (Lorette) Clarke of Cranberry Portage, Man., and Dan (Georgina) Clarke of Fort Frances, Ont. She also is survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Ordasa Horley; husband, Daniel; four brothers, Walter (Katherine), Jasper (Anna), Harold (Violet), and Richard; two sisters, Charlotte and Alma (Chester); and one son-in-law, Martin Ellek. A memorial service to celebrate Edna’s life was held Monday, July 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Chapple Community Hall in Barwick, with Rev. Leslie Abbott officiating. Interment took place at the Chapple Cemetery in Barwick. The honourary pallbearers were all of Edna’s grandchildren. If friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Emo Hospital, 260 Front St., Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0, or the charity of your choice.
