CATHERINE BAGACKI Catherine Bagacki, 88, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 at Rainycrest Home for the Aged in Fort Frances. She was born Feb. 17, 1916 to the late Nicholas and Tessie Michaluk in Winnipeg, Man. Her mother died at a young age and Catherine lived with several foster families in Manitoba and Saskatchewan prior to going to work for a family in Rocky Inlet, where she met her future husband, George. Catherine and George were united in marriage in 1931. Catherine spent most of her life in Fort Frances, with the exception of several special years living in Edmonton, Alta. with her youngest daughter, Jan, and family. When ill health necessitated a move, she happily returned to Rainycrest, where she had been employed for more than 25 years. She was an exceptional mother and a spectacular grandmother. Every one of her offspring owes their fabulous cribbage-playing ability to hours of lessons at Baba’s kitchen table. If you were old enough to count, you were old enough to play! She was extremely devoted to her entire family, in part due to her own difficult upbringing. She was a deeply spiritual woman, and it was her faith in God that helped her through troubled times. Catherine was predeceased by her parents; husband, George, on March 11, 1990; daughter, Lillian Boyce; sons-in-law, William Moen and Allan Boyce; sister, Mary Michael; and brothers, Emanuel Mitchell and Jim Mitchell. She is survived by her children, John (Lynda) of Winnipeg, Man., Violet Moen of Fort Frances, Ont., Robert (Elaine) of Miscampbell, and Jan (Brian) Avis of Calgary, Alta. Also surviving are her grandchildren, John (Nikki) Bagacki, Shaun (Theresa) Bagacki, Gael (Roy) Belluz, Sue Bagacki, Guy (Michelle) Bagacki, Rachel Bagacki, Bradford Bagacki, Brent (Marilyn) Moen, Brian (Bernadette) Moen, Linda Moen, Nancy (Rod) Bedford, Wade Bagacki, Carrie McKay, Marcie (Randy) McArthur, Mark Bagacki, Brent (Candace) Bagacki, Karen Kemble, Norman (Wendy) Lambert, Bob Lambert, Cathy (Joe) Presta, Troy (Lisa) Avis, and Lori Avis; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with John Chornabay officiating. If family and friends so desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
