HARVEY LORAIN STRACHAN Harvey Strachan, 85, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born Oct. 24, 1918 to Charles and Nettie Strachan in Boxalder, Ont. He had lived in the Devlin, Ont. area most of his life until moving to Fort Frances in 1993. On Sept. 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Eileen Hyatt. Harvey was a carpenter, farmer, and an avid gardener who took great pride in his abilities. As a youth, he played baseball and then coached others, including his children. He was a member of the Devlin United Church and Knox United Church in Fort Frances. Harvey was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Nettie Strachan; wife, Eileen on March 22, 1986; grandson, William Dale LaBelle; great-grandchildren, Megan Blanchette and Heather McQuaker; and brothers, Milton, Earl, and Dean Strachan. He is survived by his children, Lenore (Allan) Cates of Fort Frances, Ont., Audrey (Forrest) McQuaker of Devlin, Ont., Larry (Kay) of Winnipeg, Man., Linda (Ray) Beaushene of Fort Frances, Ont., Barry of Cochenour, Ont., Maureen (Randy) Hanson of Nestor Falls, Ont., and Tammi (Herb) Shoemaker of Crozier. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Neal and Bruce Cates, Sandra Bambullis, Brent and Craig MaQuaker, Caron Cridland, Laura McQuaker, Tracey Stamper, Tim Strachan, Carrie Shypit, Myndi Siemens, Mike and Donna Beaushene, Erica Strachan, Kiley, Steve, and Marty Hanson, and Jennifer, Kirsten, and Baylee Shoemaker; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Meryle Ogden of Fort Frances, Ont.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Rev. Marietta Marshall will officiate, with interment in the Burriss Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to the service. The pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Allan Cates, Forrest McQuaker, Ray Beaushene, Randy Hanson, and Herb Shoemaker; and grandson, Marty Hanson. The honourary pallbearers will be Harvey’s golfing and curling buddies, as well as any friends he made along the way.
