Ray BOMBAY

RAY BOMBAY Ray Bombay, 78, of Kenora, Ont., and formerly of Rainy River First Nations, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at 11:20 p.m. at his residence. He was born Sept. 16, 1926 at Manitou Rapids to the late Christina and Sam Bombay Sr. Ray’s occupation was diamond drilling, which he did most of his life, but he also worked in logging when it was necessary. Although Ray didn’t get to go overseas during World War II, he did serve in the army just prior to the end of the war. For the past several years, he was living in Birchwood Terrace, a nursing home in Kenora. He was a member of the Rainy River First Nations. Ray is survived by his sons, Leonard (Bombay) Critchley and Richard (Bombay) Murray; his former wife, Mary Bombay of Fort Frances, Ont.; a sister, Ms. Joyce Gawlik of Edmonton, Alta.; and brothers, Calvin Bombay and Sam (Geraldine) Bombay of Manitou Rapids Reserve (Emo, Ont.) He also is survived by grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; plus many other relatives and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Christina and Sam Bombay Sr.; brothers, Alfred, Kenneth, and Harry Bombay; two half-sisters, Florence Olsson and Edna Polus; and sons, Ernest and Maurice (Bombay) Kurys. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids gymnasium. The service was conducted by Pastors Peter Krahn and Cleason Martin. Interment took place in the Manitou Rapids Cemetery (on the hill) following the funeral service. The pallbearers were Murray Bombay, Greg Bombay, Calvin Bombay Jr., Tony Bombay, Robert Bombay, and Joe Medicine. In memoriam donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
