NELLIE de JONG Nellie de Jong of the Golden Age Manor, 182 Front St., Emo, Ont., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004 at the Emo Health Centre. She was 93. She was born April 19, 1911 in Schipluiden, The Netherlands to the late Jan and Jannetje Van Dorp, the second of eight children. Nellie came to Canada with her family in 1920 and settled near Winnipeg, Man. She was married to Jacob de Jong on Dec. 7, 1931. The family lived and farmed in the Winnipeg area for a time before moving to Winnipeg in 1948. In 1955, they moved to a farm near Devlin, Ont. Nellie and Jacob retired from farming in 1972 and moved to Emo. They both loved travelling to visit family and friends, and extensively across Canada. They also were world travellers, having visited Nigeria, the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States. Throughout the years, both Nellie and Jacob were very active in the Christian Reformed Church in Emo. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, in 1992; a daughter, Caroline; a son, John; four brothers, William, Arthur, John, and Henry; three sisters, Jenny, Henriette, and Klazina; and son-in-law, Harry Romyn. She is survived by six children, Nellie and husband, Donald McCulloch, of Devlin, Ont., Jeanette and husband, Don Van Heyst, of Brandon, Man., Jacob and wife, Gerda, of Winnipeg, Man., Harold and wife, Joanne, of Dispatch, Kan., Allen and wife, Tena, of Calgary, Alta., and David and wife, Maureen, of Burlington, Ont. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eva Van Dorp; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at noon at the Christian Reformed Church in Emo. Pastor Dan Vos officiated, with interment in Box Alder Cemetery. The pallbearers were her grandchildren, Darryl Romyn, Tim De Jong, Caroline Siverson, Ted Van Heyst, Eric (de Jong) Waters, and Kevin de Jong. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations may be made to the Back to God Hour or World Missions c/o the Emo Christian Reformed Church, P.O. Box 209, Emo, Ont., P0W 1E0.
